Every student must complete a beginner workshop before taking the regular six week sessions.  These are scheduled at convenient after-school times. Register here: Beginner Workshop.

Once you’ve completed that introductory class, you are free to register your child for this next six week session.  There are four to six students to a class and each class can have kids working on different units.  This helps develop that sense of community between the kids!

The Sewciety Kids Sewing Program is a sewing curriculum for kids ages 7 and up. The Program takes a skill-building approach, starting with simpler projects and introducing new concepts and techniques as students progress. At Cottonwood, each class is limited to four students to ensure the hands-on approach between student and teacher, and Cottonwood provides the sewing machines they use in class.  There will be kids in various levels in the six week class.  This enable kids to jump in at anytime.  Newer kids can see the projects they will work on as they progress. And the kids in more advanced levels have the chance to show their skills to the newer kids! 

Kids are exposed to all aspects of sewing including: quilting, garment sewing, accessories, embroidery, applique.  They can take classes for four years (Completing Levels 1-4)  and never repeat a project!

WHAT IS IN A SIX WEEK SESSION?
LEVEL 1 |  Includes projects like a patchwork pillow, an apron, pajama pants, a skirt or hat, a pair or shorts or leggins, an upcycled shirt, and a zipper pouch!

LEVEL 2 | Includes projects like a drawstring back pack, a circle skirt, a bedroom pennant banner, an infiniti scarf, a crossbody bag and a winter vest. 

Please note: All materials for making the projects are included.  Cottonwood tries to show the kids that upcycling is an important aspect to sewing, and will try to use recycled fabric whenever possible.  We try to provide fabrics the kids will enjoy. If a student has their heart set on a specific fabric for a project that isn’t included in the class supplies, parents are welcome to purchase that special fabric at Cottonwood.
